Summary/Objectives:

The Bluehouse Technician is responsible for the daily monitoring and maintenance of the system, ensuring good fish health, and ensuring essential farm tasks are completed with a high degree of responsibility. This position includes interaction with the system and the fish so situational awareness and alertness are paramount.

 

Job Description:

 

Core areas of responsibility are:

Complete daily system checklists.

Collect water samples.

Monitor system operation and fish behavior.

Maintain strict biosecurity protocols.

Operate, adjust, and refill feed systems.

Collect, classify, and remove mortality.

Collect and maintain accurate records.

Interface with computers and apps.

Assist in fish growth sampling and transfers.

Maintain a clean workspace.

Safely handle live fish.

Ensure that Fundamental tasks are being completed and assist with them as well.


Ensure proper function and operate drum filters, biofilters, heat exchangers, ozone/skimmer systems, NaOH systems, and chillers.

Conduct standardized cleaning procedures for drum filters, biofilters, heat exchangers, ozone/skimmer systems, NaOH systems, and chillers.

Troubleshoot, repair, or replace mechanical equipment (pumps, pipe flanges, etc.).

Maintain cleanliness of water quality sensors (oxygen, pH, etc.).

Coordinate and move water within the system.

Able to understand how the water quality is affecting the system.

Predict how the system will respond to changes/new variables.

Willing to take on more responsibility with training.

 

Skills, competences, and knowledge to perform the work 

- Background in aquaculture, recirculating aquaculture systems (some basic levels of Drum filters, Biofilters, Hydro Dynamics etc), fisheries, maritime or fish handling preferred.

- 1-2 years of hands-on experience desired.

- Knowledge and use of hand tools, power tools, and related safety considerations preferred.

- Ability to work well independently and as part of a dynamic team.

- Ability to think critically and solve problems.

- Ability to speak honestly and voice concerns.


Expected hours of work:

This job is salary and schedules may include daytime, nighttime, weekend, and holiday shifts. Lunch break is 1 hour and is coordinated daily with your manager. The facility is 24/hr and may require fast response all hands-on deck calls should there be issues with the farm.


Work Environment
This job operates in a combined office and farm/production and manufacturing environment.

  • International and National overnight travel

Travel 25% of time

Ability to operate heavy machinery (training will be provided).

Able to withstand hot, cold, and humid environments.

Medium work. Up to 30 pounds of force/lifting

Heavy work. More than 30 pounds of force/lifting
