Oyster Nursery Working Supervisor
Job Description
Operational Supervision
- Working with the team, ensure the maintenance and operation of the oyster nursery and hatchery facilities including silos, tanks, pumps, and filtration systems.
- Ensure the cleanliness and proper functioning of equipment to promote healthy oyster growth.
- Working with the team, supervise and participate in the feeding, grading, and transferring of oysters through various stages of development.
Team Leadership
- Work with, supervise and support a small team of nursery technicians.
- Develop work schedules and assign tasks to ensure efficient operation.
- With the nursery manager, conduct regular team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and updates.
- Foster a safe and productive work environment by adhering to health and safety regulations.
Quality Control
- Monitor the growth rates and health of larvae and oyster seed, identifying and addressing any issues promptly.
- Conduct regular inspections and record keeping, tracking inventory and growth of oyster seed.
- Ensure that all nursery and hatchery activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Analyze data and provide reports on nursery performance and outcomes.
Education and Experience
- A degree or certificate in Marine Biology or Aquaculture, preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in aquaculture or marine nursery.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in using and maintaining aquaculture equipment and hand tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Beginning $18-$22 an hour, based on experience
- Merit-based raise after 3 months
