Government Programs

As part of the FY26 Presidential Budget, NOAA’s Ocean and Atmospheric Research (OAR) division is slated for complete termination. This devastating cut includes the elimination of the National Sea Grant Program, along with Sea Grant’s Aquaculture Research.

Sea Grant has been a vital partner to the U.S. aquaculture sector, supporting a wide range of critical efforts:

  • Professional and workforce training for those entering the aquaculture industry
  • Student research funding and academic support
  • Public outreach and education to improve understanding and acceptance of aquaculture practices

Losing Sea Grant would deal a serious blow to innovation, education, and economic growth within our sector.

We urge you to contact your state’s Senators and Representatives and ask them to:

  • Oppose the complete elimination of NOAA's Ocean and Atmospheric Research (OAR) division
  • Fully fund the National Sea Grant program in the FY26 appropriations process

Let your elected officials know how Sea Grant has made a difference in your work, your community, and the broader aquaculture sector!
