USAS Webinar: Nitrification and Nitrifiers in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems
Friday, March 1, 2024 (2:30 PM - 3:30 PM) (EST)
Description
About
Successful operation of a recirculating aquaculture system requires not only in-depth knowledge of the species being cultured, but a thorough understanding of the mechanical and biological processes occurring throughout the system. Consistent and effective operation of the biological filter is often one of greatest challenges facing the operator. Please join us for a free webinar featuring a world-renowned expert in nitrifying bacteria, Dr. Timothy Hovanec as he shares some wisdom about nitrification and nitrifiers in recirculating aquaculture systems.
Dr. Timothy A. Hovanec is the Founder of DrTim’s Aquatics, LLC., a leading provider of innovative bacterial-based products to various aquatic industries including One and Only Live Nitrifying Bacteria®. Dr. Hovanec did his Ph.D. on nitrifying bacteria phylogenetics in aquaria and continues to research the microbial pathways of closed aquatic systems and to develop ‘green’ products. Previously, Dr. Hovanec was the head of R&D for Marineland Aquarium Products and Instant Ocean for 17 years where he discovered many novel species of nitrifying bacteria. Past work experience includes managing a hybrid striped bass aquaculture facility and US Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines. Dr. Hovanec holds over 13 U.S. and foreign patents and has authored numerous papers on aquatic microbiology, water quality and filtration techniques for closed system life-support systems.
For those of you that could not make our first webinar of 2024 , “Aquaculture Literacy Through Social Media” it is now available online.
