The Reagan-Udall Foundation for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is leading an initiative to identify holistic approaches to address opportunities and challenges in animal health and veterinary medicine. FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) recently released its Animal & Veterinary Innovation Agenda, providing plans to support actions that will further position the agency to work with stakeholders to advance continued scientific and technological evolution while helping ensure that a robust variety of safe and effective animal health products are available to the animal industry, owners, caretakers, and veterinarians. 

The Foundation has convened an Expert Panel to conduct this work, and the FDA will use this analysis to help CVM identify areas where new or adapted regulatory approaches may be needed to accommodate innovative solutions. How the animal health sectors integrate with One Health will also be considered in the analysis. 

The Panel welcomes input from a variety of stakeholder perspectives: other U.S./State/Local government agencies, animal food and drug industries, public health organizations, non-governmental groups, as well as the end users of FDA’s regulated products (farmers, ranchers, pet owners, zoos, and veterinarians). Input provided by November 15, 2024, will be considered as part of the Panel’s deliberations. In addition, market research, roundtable discussions, and individual interviews will be deployed.
