This one-of-a-kind adventure series disrupts the standard narrative of countless “save the ocean” documentaries, by asking whether or not the oceans can be saved while the billions of people who rely on them for food can still eat. Telling the world to become vegan doesn’t really work. Wringing our hands and pointing fingers doesn’t work either. This provocative series investigates what does work, through the experiences of the people who are developing the surprising solutions and breakthrough blue food technologies that will dramatically re-shape the future of food.

In Alaska, a native Eyak salmon fisherman is now planting state-of-the-art kelp farms in Prince William Sound – an antidote to years of extractive practices that led to environmental destruction. In Iceland, an economist is fostering local innovation to get the most out of a single cod, including a popular cod collagen soda. In Vietnam, a scientist is re-shaping the multi-billion dollar shrimp farming industry to ensure a more sustainable future. In Philadelphia, a local marine biologist is connecting legacy fishers on the New Jersey shore with inner-city high school students through a subscription fish program that encourages customers to consider a more diverse seafood menu.
