State Marine Aquaculture Policy Dashboard Launched!
The State Marine Aquaculture Policy Dashboard offers interactive and visual representations of data collected for almost 30 marine aquaculture policies across the 23 coastal states.
The dashboard also contains three Composite Keys for users to select from. The policy attributes included in each Composite Key are listed below.
- Environmental safeguards: native species requirements, species moratoriums, local population genetic requirements, reproductive requirements, aquaculture best management practices (BMPs), and bonding requirements.
- Spatial management tools: zoning for marine aquaculture, aquaculture siting tools, and map of existing lease sites.
- Industry tools and resources: regulatory guidance, government website for permitting, government website for leasing, centralized government website, aquaculture siting tools, map of existing lease sites, and training programs.

On February 27 at 3pm eastern the National Sea Grant Law Center’s will provide an overview of their new State Marine Aquaculture Policy Dashboard, the underlying state marine aquaculture policy data, and illustrate how the dashboard can be used to learn more about state aquaculture policies. The State Marine Aquaculture Policy Dashboard was developed by the National Sea Grant Law Center and researchers at Florida State University Lester Lab with funding from the Builder’s Initiative to increase the accessibility and usability of state marine aquaculture data.
